Things you can check to be sure there aren’t any leaks in your roof

As the rain and the snow of winter season comes closer most people have to seriously start thinking about their roof. The roof is really an essential part of your home that everybody can’t live without.  But it is the part of the home most people overlook.  The only time people notice it is if there is a leak or it needs to be replaced or repaired.  But with the winter coming people can’t afford to wait for that.  So here are some ways to make sure your roof doesn’t have a leak.

The first thing you have to be able to know is whether the spot was caused by condensation or a leak.  We get calls all the time for my San Diego roofing company for people who think they have a leak.  But when we get to the house we find out it isn’t a leak but a condensation stain. The simple way to tell on whether or not it is condensation is condensation doesn’t have a design. Now when it really is a leak it will create a circular shape. So if the spot you find is circular in shape that is a sign that it is a leak.

The thing you want to check next are weak areas of your roof.  Places like by chimneys are a known weak spot and it tends to leak there.  In our roofing Oceanside service we always check those areas because it is so common that it leaks there. It is a fix that is really easy to do because all you have to do is seal that area.

Last thing you want to do is look at the areas that have been penetrated by a nail.Quite often when the nailing of the roof is done there will be spots that aren’t sealed well.  This is the cause of leaks that we find in my Rancho Bernardo roofing service. This is another simple fix you can do by finding it then sealing it.

So those are some of the methods you can use to be sure you don’t have any roof leaks this coming winter.
