How Can You Reduce The Amount You Spend On Heating Oil Each Month

By plrprousers | March 11, 2010

There are many ways to reduce the cost of heating your home this winter. Costs of oil are constantly increasing. Plus the freezing cold weather that covered the country at the beginning of the year has meant that many of us have had to use more heating oil than we normally would. This could result in huge increases in the amount of money spent on heating oil this winter. And the cost of oil is predicted to reach record highs this year.

But there are things we can do to reduce the amount we spend on heating oil. These methods can help us to reduce the amount we spend on heating our homes. By reducing the thermostat you can save a good percentage on your heating bills. You can even save money by just turning it down a couple of degrees. It is thought that an average of three percent is saved for every degree that your thermostat is reduced by.

Although washing machines generally use a lot of energy it is not a well known fact that it is the heating of the water that uses most of that energy. If you can change the water from hot to warm or cold you can save money on your heating bills.

Checking out the energy efficiency of your water heater is a good idea. Most older models are not very efficient. Older models will usually benefit from an insulation jacket. It could help to reduce energy costs each month. You should also consider insulating the attic. Many older homes do not have adequate insulation in the attic. By ensuring that the attic is properly insulated you can reduce the amount of heating you need as you will be reducing the amount of heat lost through the attic.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with cheap heating oil to make sure they don’t run dry in the cold weather.
