How a Masters Might Earn You That Promotion
By plrprousers | May 25, 2009
Obtaining a Masters degree only takes a few more years beyond the time that you will have already invested into your Bachelor’s degree, and yet the dividends that extra employment can pay are potentially very large. Masters degree holders earn significantly more than their bachelor degree holding counterparts, and are also at an advantage when it comes to promotions, and job retention. These are all factors worth considering when it comes time to make the decision whether or not to return to University.
When returning to University to pursue a higher degree, a great deal of people will emerge with a master of science degree. There are other master of science degrees which are titled slightly differently but they all mean essentially the same thing. This is a study of any of the subjects in the sciences such as hard sciences like Physics and Chemistry, as well as other subjects such as Geography which may qualify for a Masters as well. Any of these degrees will help you in your given field. The key is that it doesn’t really matter what field or industry or specialty you are located in, any time you have a masters degree you are going to be taking action to improve your overall employment options.
Getting higher education is giving yourself a greater chance to be in charge as well. For people seeking advancement opportunities they can surely give themselves a leg up by pursuing an advanced degree. A masters degree accounting program is a good example. Many large international corporations might have what amounts to small armies of accountants working for them in various branches and departments. However, these accountants all need managers and overseers, and most of the time the people who have higher degrees are going to be positioning themselves well for advancement to these positions when they become available.
Getting a higher degree isn’t the fast track to instant riches or a CEO position. However, we live in times of uncertainty and instability. People are looking for ways to improve their job security and for methods to help them earn more money in order to guarantee their financial security in the future. The best possible way to do this is by increasing your value to your employers, and to yourself, by earning that higher degree. It will improve your retention and advancement likelihood within your company, open new job opportunities, and help you earn more in order to protect yourself against future financial instability or disasters.
